'Patsy Jacks'
M.Finneran-Public House & Grocery Store
One of the locations me and Becci had pinned on the July 2024 tour of Ireland. The decayed remnants of what comprised a former Public House, grocery store, mill and some adjoining outbuildings.
Currently [July 2024] the property is up for sale for a cool 45,000 euros and is advertised as the 'Renowned property worldwide; “Patsy Jack’s”. The advert further states that the site stands on c. 1.67 Acres of land fronting onto the Killeglan River and that this landmark building holds huge potential for re-development due its size and location.
Inside, the bar & grocery store area is severely decayed with the back having completely collapsed in on itself making photographing inside very difficult. Having said that, there was still areas that pointed to what the original use was for with products still left on shelves including alcohol and general food items. Apparently 'Patsy Jacks' was renowned for having the cheapest pints in Ireland.
Of abandoned buildings, I love shops as they leave behind definitive markers as to when the building was last used in the form of use by dates on products left behind and give an insight into what was consumed at the time.
Only a small location but a nice little bit of Irish history to document.
